05-27-09 - On Saturday, May 23, the Taconic Hills Titans girls’ softball team played two games in a Mechanicville Tourney and walked away with two victories as they head toward sectional play. In the first game, the Titans matched up with potential sectional foe Schuylerville and emerged with a hard fought 1-0 win. The Titans lone run came off the bat of Alyssa Van Alphen who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Titans only other scoring chance was in the third inning when Schuylerville pitcher Katie Gallagher walked three consecutive batters with two outs to load the bases and KK Keeler launched a well-hit ball to left field that was caught but would have driven in a run if there had been fewer than two outs.
Per her usual, Aleshia Link was dominant on the mound going the distance for the Titans, allowing zero runs, zero walks, and just one hit, while striking out 16.
In game two, the Titans took on out-of-section Ticonderoga and won 7-0. Van Alphen continued her strong hitting performance by going 3 for 5 with 3 singles. Link smacked a triple and drove in a run, while Keeler had 2 singles and an RBI. Kara Williams drove in two runs with a double, and Kelsey Campbell drove in one with a single to help the Titan cause. Link again pitched a complete game, giving up no runs on one hit and one walk, this time striking out 18 batters.
"These were two big wins for us, especially since these teams are both ranked in the state," said Titans coach Angela Webster. "The day was a good preparation for sectionals."
