CHATHAM BASEBALL WINS SECOND GAME WITH HUDSON

05-04-09 - On Thursday, the Chatham boys’ baseball team headed to Hudson to play the second game in a home-and-home series. Just twenty-four hours earlier Chatham pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind victory to take the first game of the series on their home field. After scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, Chatham had plenty of momentum heading into the second game.

Hudson sent starting pitcher Brandon Williams to the mound, while Chatham countered with starter Brian Gauthier. Hudson broke out to an early lead and carried it through most of the game until, again in the seventh inning, Chatham got rolling. This time, faced with a 3-1 deficit, the Chatham bats heated up. Ryen Boehme topped of the comeback with a two-out, two-RBI single that drove home the tying and winning run. With Chatham leading 4-3, Hudson tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning. Hudson loaded up the bases before a Chris Williams strikeout sealed the win and the save for Chatham.

Hudson's offense was led by Justin Brantley, Jack Rigos, Brandon Williams, Anthony Miller, and Kevin Gorman, who all had singles. Ryen Boehme carried the Chatham offense with two hits and two RBIs, including the game-winning hit. Tanner Niles, Brian Gauthier, Joseph Cozzolino, Michael Sirani, Jordan Sirani, and Cody Portin all added singles for the Panthers.

Hudson starting pitcher Brandon Williams pitched a complete game, picking up six strikeouts along the way while giving up eight hits. For Chatham, starter Brian Gauthier went six and two-thirds innings. He walked four, struck out eleven, and gave up five hits. Closer Chris Williams got the save for Chatham.

Hudson coach Kevin Bowes commented via email: “Once again, we could not hold the lead going into the seventh inning. We had a 3-1 lead, but Chatham came alive and won the game. Our guys really played well today but came out on the losing end. I was impressed with Gauthier on the mound today. He was really bringing a good fastball and an excellent curveball as well."

Hudson now stands at 8-3 overall. They face Rhinebeck on Saturday before starting the week out with a pair of games with Cairo-Durham.

Chatham moves up to 12-1 overall and keeps their league record unblemished at 10-0. The Panthers face Bishop Maginn on Saturday and then play a two-game series against Taconic Hills early in the week.
