05-01-09 - After knocking off ICC and Greenville—the other two undefeated teams in the league—Taconic Hills picked up another win on Wednesday when they beat Cairo-Durham 14-2. The Titans improve to 11-0 overall, 10-0, alone in first atop the Patroon Conference. Taconic Hills returns to league action on Friday when they travel to Coxsackie-Athens.
The Titans scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning on the Mustangs and never looked back. The Titans added another run in the third, three more in the fifth, and one more in the sixth en route to the easy victory. Both of the Mustangs runs came in the fourth inning.
Aleshia Link started on the mound for the Titans but pitched just two innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs, while striking out five. Nicole Torchia pitched the final five innings in relief, allowing both runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.
At the plate for the Titans, nine different batters collected hits and eight scored runs. Alyssa Van Alphen and Nicole Havlik each collected three hits for the Titans, with Van Alphen scoring four runs and driving in one, and Havlik scoring and drove in two.
Link added two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Elyse DeRuzzio collected two hits, one run, and one RBI. Kara Williams also had two hits, one run, and one RBI. Other top hitters included Kailynn Keeler drove in two runs while scoring one of her own, and Meagen Skelley drove in two runs with her lone hit. Becky Edgeworth added an RBI, and Kelsey Campbell added a run in the win.
