05-01-09 - Ichabod Crane got back to their winning ways with a 6-2 victory over Chatham on Monday in Valatie. The two teams did their scoring early before the pitchers settled into grooves and halted most of the offensive pressure. The two teams continued to fill up the base paths but struggled to plate runs with the defenses and pitchers finishing up strong.

Chatham Gets a Pair of Strikeouts - ICC Pitcher Picks up the Strikeout

With the Riders holding a four-run lead, freshman pitcher Jess Van Alphen escaped a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning after a line drive to the first baseman followed by a 1-2-3 double-play ground-out back to the mound.

Van Alphen pitched a complete game on the mound for the Riders allowing 1 earned run on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8. Her counterpart on the mound for the Panthers, Chrissy Dunton, also went the distance, giving up 6 runs, but only 3 of them earned on 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5.

Alli Pullen belted a triple and drove in a run to lead the Riders, while Sarah Wheeler and Keira MacDonald each added RBI singles. Becca Smith added a single for ICC. For Chatham, Ayen Antonson went 2 for 3 at the plate, while Courtney Mesick went 2 for 4.

Ichabod Crane returns to action on Wednesday when they host Catskill who’s coming off an upset of Maple Hill. Chatham also returns to the diamond on Wednesday when they will travel to county rival Hudson in an intriguing matchup.
