06-12-09 - Germantown continued its run toward a state title on Wednesday night in Potsdam as the Clippers beat Heuvelton, 8-5. The Clippers scored in just two innings in the game--the third and fourth--and both of those innings resulted in four runs crossing the plate with two outs for Germantown en route to the win.
Sophomore Carissa Phillips again toed the rubber for the Clippers and went the distance on the mound. Phillips surrendered five hits over her six innings of work while walking five and striking out one. At the plate, Courtney Parlman led the charge going two for three with a single, double, and four RBIs. Patti Cameron added two hits and an RBI, while Lauren Fix added two hits of her own. Phillips and Caitlin Briggs each drove in a run, while Victoria Fuchs and Suzy Wright added one hit apiece in the win.
Up next for the Clippers is a potential two games on Saturday at Waterloo High School. First up for Germantown is Notre Dame of Batavia. A win would put them into the finals against the winner of the Afton vs. Seward game.
The Clippers have gone from unranked to seventh after their string of seventeen straight wins, including defeating four teams ranked in the top 15. Germantown is now 20-3, looking to end their season 22-3 with a state title after Saturday.
