06-05-09 - One game away from the Section II Class B finals, the fourth-seeded Chatham Panthers came up short, falling 4-1 to top-seeded Mechanicville on Tuesday in Colonie. The loss ends the Panthers’ season after a successful second-place tie in the Patroon Conference. Chatham is slated to lose seven seniors off this year’s squad, and the losses will be big. Pitcher Chrissy Dunton will be tough to replace, as will center fielder Katherine Behrens. First baseman Brittany Kiel, Ayen Antonson, Hannah Antonson, Jessica Diskin, and Vanna Snowden will also be lost because of graduation.
Chatham Picks Up the Strikeout
In the second inning, Mechanicville did all of its damage. With two outs, a series of errors and walks allowed the top-seed to plate all four runs, which was too much for the Panthers to overcome. Late in the game, the Panthers scored their only run of the contest when Dunton hit a solo home run over the right-field fence.
The two other Panther hits came off the bats of Behrens and Karsyn Sawyer. On the mound, Dunton went the distance, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 3.
