LINK AND TITANS NO-HIT COBLESKILL TO ADVANCE TO SEMIS

06-01-09 - It wasn’t the most dominating day offensively for the normally potent Titans offense on Friday at Veeder Park in Colonie, but with junior ace Aleshia Link on the mound, the one run her teammates produced was more than enough to get the Titans a 1-0 victory over Cobleskill-Richmondville. The second-seeded Titans didn’t have it easy on offense against the seventh-seeded Bulldogs as TH managed just five hits in the ballgame.

In the second inning, singles by Alexis McComb, then an RBI single by Kelsey Campbell provided what would be the eventual game-winning run. McComb finished the game with two of the Titans five hits, while Kailynn Keeler added a double and Link added a single in the win.

On the mound Link was fantastic, allowing no hits or walks while striking out 16 batters. In the final inning, the Bulldogs got a runner on via an error, but with the tying run on base, Link tightened up and closed out the game.

The Titans now move into the Section II Class B semifinals where they will face off against third-seeded Schuylerville on Tuesday at 3:30 at the Adirondack Sports Complex. The Black Horses advanced to the Final Four with their 7-3 win over Hudson Falls.

Just last weekend in Mechanicville, the Titans and Schuylerville squared off, with Taconic Hills coming away with a 1-0 win.
