06-01-09 -Third-seeded Ichabod Crane took care of business on Friday in the Section II Class A softball quarterfinals by defeating sixth-seeded Glens Falls 10-0 at Veeder Park in Colonie.
ICC gets an out on a popup
After a slow start where the Riders scored no runs in either of the first two innings, Ichabod put up 3, 4, 2, and 1 over the course of the final four innings en route to the win. Junior catcher Becca Smith tallied two hits, both doubles, and 4 RBIs on the day, while senior short stop Alli Pullen went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and an opposite field triple off the high fence, which would have gone out for a home run on any one of the other three fields at the facility. Courtney Hill added two more hits as the Riders pounded out 11 on Glens Falls pitcher Courtney Bell, who also surrendered 7 walks.
On the mound for ICC was left-handed freshman Jess Van Alphen who allowed just 2 hits and 3 walks over the course of seven innings, while striking out 10 hitters en route to helping ICC improve to 20-5 overall on the season.
Up next for Ichabod Crane is seventh-seeded Scotia, who pulled off a shocking 5-1 upset over second-seeded Lansingburgh. The Riders will face off against the Tartans Tuesday at 3 p.m. again at Veeder Park in Colonie.
