After running off a three-game win streak, the Columbia-Greene Twins dropped consecutive games on Friday and Saturday to Schenectady and Mohawk Valley. After playing away from home since the beginning of December, the Twins finally returned to the friendly confines of their home gym on Saturday, but they could never find their groove en route to a 67-54 loss to Mohawk. The loss drops the Twins’ record to 8-10.

Early on the Twins struggled defensively as Mohawk was able to come away with a number of buckets even when the C-GCC defense looked to be in good position. Offensively, things weren’t falling for the Twins with as much consistency as for their teammates, but they were able to fight to keep things close. Late in the first half, Eli Tillerson hit back-to-back long-range jumpers, and Mehdi Elyamine and Lenny Coons each scored, allowing the Twins to cut their deficit to 6 heading to the half.
In the second half, the Twins again watched as Mohawk knocked down shot after shot despite any defensive effort they put forth. Big man Kamal Ramos started to get rolling to the tune of 13 second-half points. Down 13 points with ten minutes left, the Twins kept fighting. A Jimmy Boyles steal and pass to Elyamine cut the deficit to 8, and a Ramos score down low trimmed it to 6. A Tillerson hoop down low off a Ramos feed made it 54-48, but that was as close as the Twins got.
Ramos finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Tillerson ended up with 15 points and 8 rebounds. The Twins have three more games this month, the next being an away game on Tuesday with Albany College of Pharmacy. After that the Twins have a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday against Herkimer and Adirondack.
