Germantown defeated Waterford in Central Hudson Valley League boys’ basketball for the third time this season, this time on Tuesday in Germantown. The Clippers came away with a 48-40 win that allows them to keep pace with co-leader Loudonville Christian.
In a defensive struggle only a combined three players from both teams reached double digits in scoring. Germantown jumped out to an early lead, but a strong second quarter by the Fordians sent the Clippers into the half down 7.
Riding a strong defensive effort, the Clippers stepped up their intensity and held Waterford to just 12 second-half points, including only 4 in the fourth quarter. Down 7 at the half, Germantown stormed out of the locker room to the tune of 15 big points, tying things up as they headed to the final stanza.
In the final quarter, the home-standing Clippers came through, outscoring their opponents 12-4 en route to the win. The Clippers two leading scorers, Cody Broast and Thomas Griffin were held to single digits for the first time this season, as Broast netted 8 and Griffin finished with 5.
John Diehl led the Clippers with his second consecutive 13-point outing, while point guard Larry Niebling scored 11 in the crucial win.
The Clippers have just three weeks and six games remaining on their league schedule. Up next are a Thursday–Friday set of road trips as Germantown heads to Hawthorne Valley and New Lebanon before playing three games next week.
