Early on it was obvious to anyone in the gym who the best player on the court was as Shattenkirk opened up the game with his own 7-2 scoring spurt, forcing a Panther timeout. Gauthier responded with a three-pointer, one of three he would bury that night, but that was as close as the Panthers would get as ICC made quick work of their conference foes. Chris Larm scored two hoops down low for the Riders, but a Josh Keyes jumper at the first quarter buzzer cut the deficit to four.
A pair of Derick Horn free throws got the Riders’ second quarter started, but Brian Gauthier converted a steal and a lay up early to keep the Panthers down just four. That hoop, however, would be the Panthers’ only make until the 2:30 minute mark of the quarter. In that span the Riders put up 11 points. After the teams traded hoops, Josh Ingham converted down low with three seconds on the clock to put the Riders up 12 at the half.
The second half got no easier for Chatham as Shattenkirk added 8 points to his total, and Larm began to dominate completely on both ends of the floor with his rebounding. That combined with the hustle by Horn on the offensive end allowed the Riders to outscore Chatham 12-5.
The Panthers attempted to fight back in the fourth, but it was too late. They were down by too much and fell 60-35. Along with Shattenkirk’s 22, the duo of junior big men Larm and Horn each scored 12, and fellow junior Josh Ingham added 6. Senior Ben Gevlin added 5 in the win. Gauthier led the Panthers with 13 points, while Brian Gauthier and Josh Keyes each scored 7. Todd Van Alstyne scored 6 for Chatham with both of his hoops coming from beyond the arc.
