After their disappointing home loss to Maple Hill almost a month ago, the Ichabod Crane Riders have bounced back, notching their third straight league victory with a 57-34 win over visiting Greenville. The win improves ICC to 5-1 in the league, good for second place in the league behind Maple Hill.
Ichabod Crane got off to a slow start that saw them fall behind 13-12 after the first quarter, but things started to come together late in the first half as Sean Shattenkirk scored a quick five points and Josh Ingham buried a three-pointer in the final seconds to give the Riders a 25-19 lead.
Coming out of halftime fired up, the Riders took over and never looked back en route to the easy win. Ingham knocked down two more three-pointers early in the half, while Derick Horn made an impact with his hustle and rebounding, especially on the offensive end. With an eleven-point lead going into the third, the Riders put the final nails in the coffin with five quick points from Ben Gevlin, followed by a shot block on the defensive end by Horn, then an offensive rebound put back on the offensive side.
The big key to the Riders success was one that happened early in the game. Starting center Dan Earley was subbed out for Gevlin early in the first quarter, and from that point all the way until the 45 second mark of the third quarter, the same five players played every minute for the Riders. That unit hit their groove and put the Riders way out in front.
Ingham led the way for ICC with 14 points while Shattenkirk added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Gevlin added 12, while Horn chipped in with 9 in the win. Up next for Ichabod is a trip to rival Chatham on Thursday
