Chatham made the trip to Cairo-Durham Monday night to open up their Patroon Conference schedule and walked away with a disappointing 3-0 loss. “We knew Cairo would be one of the top teams this year,” said Panther coach Matt Torrey via email. “We have the capabilities. We just have to put them together.”
The Panthers fell by the scores of 25-18, 25-24 and 25-18. One of the Panthers best and most important players went down with an ankle injury in the first game—an injury that surely could have changed the outcome of the contest. “We’ll have to make some adjustments until he returns,” Torrey added.
Josh Kohrs tallied 13 assists, 6 blocks, and 5 service points in the loss, while Wade Klinger added 7 service points, 6 assists, 3 blocks, and a kill. Adam Scaglione came up big at the net for the Panthers, picking up 9 kills and 5 blocks, while Kevin Meyers contributed 8 service points, 7 kills, and 5 blocks.
Chatham returns to league action Thursday when they travel to rival Ichabod Crane in a big early season contest, before heading to New Lebanon on Friday.
