With only one Patroon Conference boys’ basketball game left on the schedule—a Monday matchup between Ichabod Crane and Cairo-Durham at Columbia-Greene Community College—we here at ccSCOOP will be unveiling our All-Conference lists over the next few weeks. First up is our look at 5th Team All-Conference, along with our selections for Honorable Mention.
5th Team
Mico Perez-De Los Santos (Rensselaer, Junior): The undersized guard used his exceptional quickness to wreak havoc on both ends of the court all season long. Averaging just over 8 points a game he was the third leading scorer on the third best team in the league.
Larell Roberts (Hudson, Freshman): Came on as a real surprise for the Bluehawks, using his size and versatility to be a dangerous weapon on offense and on the boards. Averaging just under 10 points a game, he became the team’s second offensive option as the season moved forward.
Justin Brantley (Hudson, Senior): The heady senior averaged more than 8 points a game, good enough for fifth on his team, but his value was more than just points. He played a safe and solid point guard and defense for a team that needed an experienced leader.
Austin Simmons (Coxsackie-Athens, Junior): The big man only averaged 6 points a game, but as evidenced by our own ccSCOOP Players Poll, Simmons is respected as a dominant force as a shot blocker and rebounder.
Brian Gauthier (Chatham, Senior): Was one of four players who averaged at least 9 points a game for the Panthers this year. When this young team needed a scorer early in the season, it was Gauthier who stepped up, and as the season moved along, he provided a quality defensive effort.
Honorable Mention
Brandon Johnson (Chatham, Sophomore): Although inconsistent, he was a valuable scorer in the mid- and low-post for the Panthers and also a solid rebounder on both sides of the floor.
Cian McGeever (Cairo-Durham, Junior): Averaged more than 8 points a game for a top six team in the league. A good defender and rebounder, McGeever provided a tough blue-collar effort.
Ryan Romagnano (Coxsackie-Athens, Senior): Ended the season averaging more than 9 points a game and for much of the early part of the season was the Indians’ leading scorer.
Mike Jacobsen (Taconic Hills, Junior): Started off slow for the winless Titans, but as the season moved on, he found his range from beyond the arc, helping him finish the season averaging more than 8 points per game and making at least one three-pointer per contest.
