04-21-09 - Columbia-Greene continued its hot ways on Saturday when they hosted Clinton and walked away with a pair of victories to improve their record to 3-6 overall, 3-5 in the league. "We still have a long ways to go to be able to compete with the upper tier teams, but I think we are getting there," said Twins coach Pete Dedrick via email.

In game one, Clinton came out on fire and scored 6 runs in the opening two innings. In the bottom half of the second inning, Columbia-Greene came roaring back, scoring 6 runs of their own to tie the game. The lead continued to flip-flop. In the top of the fourth, Clinton scored 2 more runs to go up 8-6, and the Twins responded in the bottom half of the inning by putting up 5 more runs. The Twins would go on to add 2 more en route to a 13-8 victory. "We were hitting the ball, that’s for sure," said Dedrick. "There were a lot of ups and downs with the emotions, but I think we stayed together, and it was nice to see us fight back from the 6-0 deficit."

On the hill, Meghan McNeff pitched a complete game, allowing 8 runs but only 3 earned on 7 hits while striking out three. "Meghan hung in there and battled," said Dedrick of his pitcher. At the plate, Cabrina Collesides continued her torrid pace in the batter’s box, picking up 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Lori Teaney added a 3-4 performance which included a double, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and a stolen base.

After the offensive onslaught in the first game, the second became a whole new ball game. Both teams’ bats calmed downed as the teams combined for just 10 runs after putting up 21 in the first. "Meghan pitched a heck of a ball game," said Dedrick. "I was a little disappointed in our defense in the second game," he added.

Nadia Ernst led the way with her bat going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a walk, while Maggie McBroom added a hit and two runs scored.

Columbia-Greene returns to action when they host a very talented Herkimer team Thursday at 3.
