04-16-09 - Ichabod Crane hosted Greenville in a pair of Patroon Conference baseball games on Monday and came away with two impressive wins, 14-3 and 21-11. On Thursday the Riders jump right back into league action when they travel to Cairo-Durham where a scheduled rematch between Riders’ ace Josh Ingham and Mustangs’ top pitcher Hunter Phillips is set to take place.

Game One went just five innings before the Greenville coach called a halt to the match, electing to move on to the second game. Seth Williams started on the mound for ICC and threw four innings, giving up just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out two, before Nick Accousti came in to relieve him and threw one inning, giving up two runs.

At the plate, Alex Issler collected a pair of doubles en route to driving in three runs and scoring two of his own. Derick Horn collected just one hit but drove in five runs thanks to two sacrifices. Horn also scored one run as did Matt Moore, Alex Mastrianni, Anthony Groat, Bryan Smith, Phil Basile, and Nick Albery. Zach Albery added in three runs and an RBI, while Josh Ingham notched two hits, a run, and an RBI in the win.

In Game Two, neither team’s pitching staff could do much to slow down their opponents as the teams combined to score 32 runs. Nick Albery started on the mound for ICC but lasted just one and a third innings, giving up six runs, five earned but on just one hit. Albery’s inability to find the strike zone hurt him since he walked seven batters. Anthony Groat came in to relieve Albery and threw one inning, surrendering one run on one hit and one walk. David Winch came to the mound next for the Riders, throwing just two-thirds of an inning and giving up two runs on zero hits but four walks while striking out two. Alex Mastrianni toed the rubber next for the Riders and pitched three innings giving the Riders their best performance on the mound in the game. Mastrianni held the Spartans scoreless, allowing just one hit and striking out six before Nick Accousti came in to close out the game, giving up two unearned runs on two walks.

Eight different Riders collected a hit in the second game, and six players accounted for the 21 ICC runs. Issler picked up three more hits on the day while scoring four times and driving in two. Groat picked up three hits of his own to go along with his two runs and two RBIs. Ricky Smith had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs, while Derick Horn had two hits and scored four times. Mastrianni and Basile each scored twice for ICC and Ingham notched four runs and one RBI as the Riders improved to 4-0 in the Patroon Conference.
