04-13-09 - 7:55 am - The ICC Boys’ and Girls’ track teams hosted Taconic Hills on Thursday in a matchup between two of the top teams in the Patroon Conference. Last year, on the boys’ side of things, the Riders and Titans finished 1st and 3rd in the league, while on the girls’ side, the teams finished 2nd (ICC) and 3rd (TH) behind Chatham. On Thursday in Valatie, both Ichabod Crane teams came away with big early season results, outlasting the Titans.
ICC and Taconic Hill boys compete in the hurdles
On the boys’ side, the Riders captured 13 victories out of the 17 events, with three athletes taking multiple individual victories for a 98-43 win. Those three athletes were David Gray, Deme Kramarchyk, and Cody Price. Gray picked up a foursome of victories, including one victory on the track in the 110-meter hurdles along with three wins in the field: the discus, long jump, and the triple jump. Kramarchyk added three wins, all on the track, with victories in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter races. Price captured individual wins in the 800 and 1600 and was part of the winning 4x800 team.
For the Titans, only two athletes captured individual titles. Nolan Boice won the shot put, and Fernandez won the 3200.
On the girls’ side, no score was reported, but we did receive word the Ichabod Crane girls came away with a win. A highlight was freshman Jen Receveur setting a new Ichabod Crane pole vault record when she cleared 8' 6".
The Riders got back to action this past Saturday when they traveled to Cornwall for a meet and competed in another nonleague contest on Tuesday at Fonda Fultonville. Next Saturday the Taconic Hills girls will travel to the Bethlehem Invitational, and both teams get back into action on Tuesday, April 21, with a Patroon Conference matchup at home against Catskill.
