ICC BASEBALL PICKS UP WIN IN FIRST LEAGUE GAME

04-10-09 - Despite having a number of games being pushed back to due to the weather, the ICC Riders looked sharp and opened their Patroon Conference season with a 2-1 victory over Cairo-Durham on Wednesday. The Riders are now 1-0 and will travel to Coxsackie-Athens on Thursday. Next week ICC starts a brutal stretch when they will play six games in five days.

After each team scored a run early, the game remained knotted at one until the sixth inning when ICC broke through. With pinch runner Nick Accousti on the base paths, Nick Albery drove home the game winning run.

Player interview and game highlights

Josh Ingham started on the mound for the Riders and threw five innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out four. Seth Williams came to the mound in relief and picked up the win, throwing two innings of scoreless, hitless ball, striking out two and walking two.

Williams and Alex Mastrianni each collected two hits on the day for the Riders, while Ingham picked up a single. Albery’s lone hit was an RBI single. Alex Issler had a hit and scored when David Winch was walked with the bases loaded.
