RIDERS TOP PANTHERS TO STAY UNDEFEATED IN PATROON CONFERENCE TENNIS

04-10-09 - The defending Patroon Conference champions Ichabod Crane remained undefeated on Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over Chatham. The Riders move to 3-0 in the early season, while the Panthers now fall to 0-3.
Mitchell Niemeyer defeated Connor Cockroft 6-4, 7-5 in the top-seeded single matchup, while Chatham’s Kevin Meyers took the second singles match by beating Brian McGovern 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Luke Matachiero knocked off Ethan Grossman 6-4, 6-2 in the third-seeded singles match. In the fourth singles match, the Riders took home another win with Devin Collins besting Kevin Pratt 6-2, 6-1. In the final singles matchup, it was ICC’s Dan Matachierro beating Chatham’s Chase Smith 6-1, 6-1.

In the top-seeded doubles match, it was Jeremy Shapiro and Mike Nicholson from Ichabod Crane beating Vince Oram and Andrew Willet 6-1, 6-1, and in the second-seeded doubles match Gonzolo Civeria and Steve Domino knocked off Austin Klein and Steve Darling 6-1, 6-1. In exhibition play ICC’s Chris Alarcon and Will Valley defeated Tom Davis and Ben Van Alstyne 8-1.
The Riders now go on a three-game road trip, starting off with a Thursday trip to Hudson, followed by visits to Cairo-Durham and Taconic Hills. Chatham looks to break their losing streak when they host Coxsackie-Athens on Thursday.
