The Columbia-Greene Community College Twins lost their first game of the season on Friday when they traveled to Sussex and fell 7-1. The Twins were up against it in their first game since their opponents were competing in their 16th game of the season. "Obviously, we’re not happy with the result," said Twins’ coach Pete Dedrick via email, "but with it being our first game, I can see some positive signs."
Meghan McNeff, a former Catskill High and Hudson Valley Community College pitcher, started on the hill for the Twins and hurled a complete game, allowing 7 runs, just 3 earned on 5 hits while striking out 4. "She pitched out of some jams," Dedrick added. "The walks and hits batman hurt her."
On the offensive side, the Twins racked up 7 hits in the ball game, led by Cabrina Collesides who picked up 2 hits in a 2-3 performance. Taconic Hills alum Maggie McBroom picked one hit and former Titan Lori Teaney also collected one hit while driving in the Twins only run. Kristen Knickerbocker, Nadia Ernst, and Amanda Osborn each collected hits.
Looking on the positive side of things, Dedrick had this to say, "Once we shake off the rust, I can see good things happening." The Twins’ doubleheader against Camden scheduled for Sunday was postponed due to weather which means that Columbia-Greene now has off until Thursday when they will have their home and league opener with Fulton-Montgomery.
