SECTIONALS : FRIDAY'S RESULTS

Greg Dedrick
ccSCOOP Sports Editor

Friday was a busy day in Sectional action, especially for our Columbia County teams, with two football teams, two soccer teams, two field hockey teams, and four volleyball teams playing games.

FOOTBALL
Chatham The top-seed in Class B, the Chatham Panthers struggled early but blew the game open down the stretch as they dismantled Corinth 70-20. Quarterback Parker Niles accounted for four touchdowns, two on the ground and two in the air, while Josh Keyes added three on the ground in the blowout win.

Hudson The Bluehawks pulled off perhaps the biggest upset not just in Section II Class B but in all of Section II football as they knocked off top-seeded Schalmont 13-12. Talib Barksdale and Paul Gray each rushed for a touchdown for Hudson, while Mike Rigos added the game winning extra point in the third quarter.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Ichabod Crane The Riders let up a goal early but came back to defeat the fourth-seeded Schalmont Sabres. Kylie Watt tied the game, and Morgan Van Alstyne converted a breakaway with just over a minute left in the game to give the Riders the win. This sets up a battle with top-seeded Burnt Hills Tuesday night.

Chatham The Panthers fell to Tamarac by a score of 2-0 in the second round of Section II Class B. The Bengals have one of the best defenses in all of area and contained the Panthers up top while scoring two goals. The Panthers finished off a terrific season and will lose only six seniors to graduation but those six are integral parts of the squad.

FIELD HOCKEY
Taconic Hills Fourth-seeded Taconic Hills knocked off Hudson Falls in a high-scoring contest Friday, winning 6-3. Rachel Gellert scored three goals en route to the win. The Titans now advance to face top-seed Glens Falls on Wednesday.

Ichabod Crane The third-seeded Riders were knocked out of sectionals Friday as they fell to Burnt Hills 3-2. With the game tied at 2 after regulation and overtime, the two teams headed to penalty strokes, where Burnt Hills won 3-0.

VOLLEYBALL
Taconic Hills The fifth-seeded Titans were knocked out of sectionals with a 3-2 loss to Glens Falls. The Titans will lose seven seniors and return four juniors to next year’s squad.

Ichabod Crane The seventh-seeded Riders were eliminated from post-season play on Friday as they fell to tenth-seeded Holy Names by a score of 3-2. The Riders finished third in the league.

Chatham The Panthers, the sixth seed, picked up a 3-1 victory over Emma Willard on Friday to move into the second round of Sectional play. The Panthers are back in action Tuesday against Galway.

Germantown The eighth seed in Class D, the Clippers beat Canajoharie 3-0 on Friday. With the win, the Clippers move on to face top-seeded Loudonville Christian Tuesday.
