MIGHTY ELKS’ STREAK ENDS

Greg Dedrick

After more than four months, the Mighty Elks co-ed indoor soccer team’s winning streak has come to a close. After not losing a single game since the June—a streak that included two session titles—the team, comprised mainly of former Ichabod Crane and Chatham players, dropped a contest 6-3 last week at Afrims Dome in Latham to Suzies, the last team to defeat them.

The Mighty Elks started off the Winter 1 session with a 2-0 record, but in the game with Suzies, they struggled with to find their groove. The loss drops them out of first place, with five games remaining on their schedule. Over the previous four months, the team piled up an impressive record of 18 wins, 1 tie, and 0 losses and outscored their opponents 186 to 66 for an average of nearly 10-3 a game.

Mighty Elks player/coach Jeremy Lazzarra had this to say about their early loss in the latest session, “We lost three players from our last session and brought on three new guys, and we’re getting used to each other. We still have a lot of talent, but until we get used to playing on the same team, we won’t be as good as we were.”

This session’s Mighty Elks roster includes Lazzarra, Ned Applegate, Greg Dedrick, Drew Hotaling, Brandon Boardman, Stefanie Sager, and Alyssa Powers, all of whom played for Ichabod Crane, and Devlin Dizacomo who played for Chatham. Rounding out the team are Kinderhook native Laura Bogardus and former Scotia-Glenville player Becca Nardi.
