TWINS TAKE A BIG STEP

After a season in which they had to play with just one substitute for the whole season, the Columbia-Greene men’s basketball team certainly seems now to be headed in the right direction. Featuring a deep roster of thirteen players, the Twins dropped their first game of the year before they got off on the right foot by capturing their own annual Goldberg Classic. In that tournament, the Twins seized the title by defeating a major opponent in Division II JUCO: Orange County.

After dropping a tough game to Hudson Valley earlier in the week, the Twins took their next major step forward by upsetting previously unbeaten and nationally ranked Mohawk Community College 58-56 at Mohawk on Saturday.

The win moves the Twins up to 3-2 and gives them two wins over very good teams. “We were focused and ready to play,” said Twins coach Kevin DeVantier. “Our defense was tough, and we won most of the 50/50 balls—which is a first for us all year.”

Guard Eli Tillerson led the charge for the Twins in their win over Mohawk, pouring in 26 points, while Kamal Ramos went off for a double double: 14 points and 14 rebounds.

“This was a great team effort and a very big win for us,” said DeVantier.

The Twins now get a full week to recover and get ready to host Finger Lakes Community College next Saturday.
