INJURIES DON’T HOLD BACK CAVALCANTI AT OSWEGO

Oswego sophomore soccer player Felipe Cavalcanti had a tough time with injuries this season, missing nearly a combined six weeks as a results of two different two injuries, but in spite of it, the former Ichabod Crane standout enjoyed a successful year. “Soccer is a rough sport,” said Cavalcanti. “Things happen in games that no one has any control over.”
Right from the start of the season Cavalcanti enjoyed success. With his team on a two-game losing streak, Felipe broke through with two goals in an early season 3-1 win over Morrisville State College, earning himself Oswego State Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 28th.

The next week Cavalcanti continued his hot streak, scoring game-winning goals in back-to-back wins over Potsdam and Plattsburgh en route to being named SUNYAC (State University of New York Athletic Conference) Male Soccer Player of the Week, along with again being named Oswego State Athlete of the Week.
While the injuries kept him out of action, his team competed at a high level, finishing the season with an 8-9-1 record and a 6-4 conference record and earning a berth in the SUNYAC playoffs. The Lakers fell in the first round of the playoffs, losing 3-1 in overtime.
Once the season was over, Cavalcanti’s accomplishments continued. He was named Third Team All Conference, thanks in large part to his eight goals and eight assists this season, which included four game-winning goals.
“Last season, when the season ended I told my teammates that this was going to be a season of great success for me, and because of injuries I wasn’t able to perform to my potential,” said Cavalcanti. “Next year, however, I’ll come in more prepared. It’s my last year, and I have high expectations.” |
