Taconic Hills lost in the first round of their own Dollars for Scholars Tournament on Friday, falling to Waterford 59-43. The loss keeps the Titans winless for the season and sends them into the consolation game on Saturday, where they will face Mount Everett. In an ugly defensive battle, neither team could get much offensive flow going, as they combined for just 40 points in the first half. The Titans went to the line for 25 free throws, but Waterford got there 32 times. Waterford made just 12 of their attempts, but that outdid the Titans who made only 11.

Although they held the Fordians to just 12 first-quarter points, the Titans scored only 5 points of their own. All of those points came from senior guard Dylan Ruffner. In the second quarter, the Titan defense again only allowed 13, and this time put up 10 of their own. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, leading scorer Charlie Van Deven poured in 7 second-quarter points.
Things got no easier for the Titans in the second half as they continued to struggle scoring the basketball while giving up a lot of points. With the game in hand, Waterford allowed the Titans finally to get something going, but it was too little too late.
Van Deven led the way for the Titans with 15 points, while Ruffner added 9. AT Turner chipped in with 7, and Mike Jacobsen added 5.
