After giving up 28 points in the first half, the Clippers tightened up their defense in the third quarter, allowing just four, while cutting their deficit to two. Although Race was struggling to score, she continued to impact the game on the defensive end. At the start of the fourth quarter, Race stole the ball and threw a long pass to Kim Kreig, who converted the layup and tied the game.
Pine Plains scored again before Caitlin Briggs began to take over the game for Germantown. First Briggs knocked down a free throw and missed the next. After a Clipper rebound and miss, Briggs snagged the rebound and was again fouled, converting one more. Again, on the second free throw, Germantown grabbed the board and missed a shot, and again it was Briggs cleaning up the mess and drawing a foul, this time converting both free throws.
With Germantown up by one with four minutes left, Briggs grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the hoop while being fouled. After the ensuing free throw, the Clippers were up four. Pine Plains battled back to retake the lead with under two minutes to play, but again Briggs came through, this time with a jumper to put her team up one. The two teams traded free throws before Suzy Wright went to the free throw line with 3.9 seconds to play. Wright knocked down the first one, and after a scramble on the missed second shot, the clock ran out, and Germantown came away with a nonleague win to improve to 7-0.
Briggs had a monster game for the Clippers finishing with 23 points and 7 rebounds, while Wright netted 8. Despite just 2 points, Race contributed with 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The victory sends Class D Germantown into the finals against Patroon Conference contender Class B Taconic Hills.
