On the boys’ side Taconic Hills and Germantown also competed in the Dollars for Scholars event, while New Lebanon boys went to Argyle, just like the girls.
Check back with ccSCOOP for more complete coverage of Day 1 of the Dollars for Scholars, including game-by-game recaps of the Germantown girls’ game along with both the Taconic Hills and Germantown boys’ contests.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Mount Everett 35—Taconic Hills 42
The Titans started off their own tournament on the right foot with a nonleague victory on Friday. Taconic Hills opened up the game leading by 3 after one quarter and expanded on their lead, heading into halftime by 5. Taconic Hills kept up their defensive pressure. After allowing just 8 second-quarter points they let in only 5 in the third.
As they have all season long, the Titans used a balance and deep-scoring attack. Seven different players scored for Taconic Hills. Rachel Preusser converted seven shots from field and tallied 14 points. Emma Gryner added 10 points in the win, while Kelsey Campbell chipped in with 9. The victory advances the Titans to their own holiday tournament title game on Saturday against Germantown.
New Lebanon 32--Argyle 49
The Tigers of New Lebanon fell in the opening round of the Argyle Tournament on Friday. The Tigers fell behind early and could never recover as they struggled to contain senior Brittany King, who scored 21 points, including five three-pointers. Down ten points after one quarter, New Lebanon struggled to put points up in the middle quarters, scoring just 12 points in those two quarters combined. Despite a big 16-5 free-throw advantage, the Tigers struggled to put up points.
Alannah Carpinello led the way for New Lebanon, pouring in 17 points including an impressive 7-12 from the charity stripe. Geneva Furlano added 8 in the loss. The Tigers move onto the consolation game on Saturday where they will square off with Hartford.
Ichabod Crane 55--Glens Falls 58
The ICC Riders gave host school Glens Falls all it could handle in the first round of their tournament, as ICC staged a second-half comeback that came up just short. After being down by 10 at the half, the Riders sliced their deficit to 7 after three quarters but could not close the gap. The Riders struggled defensively, giving up four three-pointers and sending the Indians to free-throw line for 28 attempts.
The Riders put three players in double digits, with Alli Pullen leading the way with 12. Rachel Dellehunt added in 11, and Hannah Smith put in 10. Ichabod Crane looks to bounce back from the loss on Saturday when they face Class B Schuylerville in the consolation game of the tournament.
