LADY CLIPPERS STAY UNDEFEATED, HUDSON GETS A WIN, AND MORE IN GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION

After seeing games and practices wiped out due to the recent ice and snowstorms, a number of teams got in some basketball action before the Christmas break that begins Wednesday for most schools in the area.

Germantown at Waterford 60-35
After falling behind 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Clippers offense and defense took off over the final three quarters as they outscored their opponents 48-20 en route to the easy win. After giving up 15 first-quarter points, Germantown surrendered just 8, 7, and 5 points respectively in the last three periods.

The Clippers used a well-balanced scoring attack that saw 8 different players net points in the win but used junior center Taylor Race’s 26 points along with 12 from Caitlin Briggs to remain undefeated and in first place in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Germantown returns to action Friday at the Taconic Hills Holiday Tournament, when they will play Pine Plains, then play either the championship or consolation game on Saturday.

New Lebanon at St.Joseph’s 41-24
New Lebanon picked up their second win over St.Joseph’s in less than a week as the Tigers cruised to an easy nonleague victory on the road. The Tigers held St.Joseph’s to just 7 first-half points and 17 second-half points en route to the win.

Geneva Furlano led the way with 17 points, while Alannah Carpinello added 12. New Lebanon returns to action Friday when they travel to Argyle. Saturday the Tigers will play Hartford, also at Argyle.

Greenville at Hudson 42-32
Hudson ended their three-game Patroon Conference losing streak by upending visiting Greenville on Monday. Hudson jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they scored in double digits every quarter, while holding Greenville to 8 points in each of the four stanzas.

Senior guard Meghan Keeler led the way for the Bluehawks, scoring 15 points including 4 three-pointers while also nabbing 8 steals and dishing out 5 assists. She was the only double-digit scorer for Hudson, but Jenna Turner and Shavonda Cousins each added 7.
With the win Hudson moves to 2-3 in the Patroon Conference and returns to action Saturday with a nonleague trip to Holy Names.

Catskill at Taconic Hills 45-29
After starting off the season 2-0 in conference standing, the Titans suffered their first league loss of the year at the hands of Catskill Monday night. After falling behind 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Titans fought back to outscore the Cats 14-6 in the second to make the game tied at the half. But in the second half the Titans could not get their offense on track and were outscored 27-11 en route to the loss.

While Catskill put three players in double figures, the Titans had none, again relying on a balanced scoring attack that saw seven players make their way into the scoring column, led by Mary Bailly and Nicole Havlik who each scored 8, while Emma Gryner added 6.

The Titans are back in action Tuesday night as they host undefeated and defending Patroon Conference champions Maple Hill before hosting the Taconic Hills Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Maple Hill at Chatham 59-22
Defending Patroon Conference champions Maple Hill traveled to Chatham Monday night and easily kept the Panthers winless. The Panther defense and offense struggled against the Wildcats and never got on track, falling to 0-3 in the Patroon Conference. The Chatham offense did not hit double digits in any quarter, while their defense allowed double digits in all but the fourth quarter.

Brittany Keeler scored 9 points to lead the Panthers, while Katherine Behrens was the next high scorer with 4. The Panthers are off from games until they return to action against Cairo Durham on January 7.
