PANTHERS CRUISE IN VOLLEYBALL OPENER

The Chatham Panthers opened their volleyball season on Wednesday with a 3-0 straight game victory over Germantown in Chatham. The Panthers won by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-22. Both teams got their season underway and got in some game action in preparation for season and the upcoming local tournament at Columbia-Greene Community College on Saturday. Seven local teams are slated to compete in the tournament, including the Panthers and Clippers along with Ichabod Crane, Hudson, New Lebanon, Cairo-Durham and Coxsackie-Athens.

“It was a good match. Everyone played and contributed,” said Panther coach Matt Torrey via email. In his first varsity start as a setter, Josh Kohrs ended up with 10 assists. Kohrs added in 2 aces, while Nick Faxon had 5 assists and 3 kills. Other top performers for Chatham included Brandon Pitcher, who had 6 service points and 3 assists, while Kevin Meyers added 11 service points and 6 kills. Connor Cockroft threw in 5 aces, 7 kills, 1 block, and 1 assist. “Our hitters had a good night at the net,” Torrey added. “We’ll work some more on fundamentals at the C-GCC Tournament this Saturday.
