01-11-10

TUESDAY

Taconic Hills at Cairo-Durham

The Titans won their third Patroon Conference game of the season with a 45-32 win on the road against the Mustangs.  The Titans jumped out to a 6-point lead after a quarter and expanded that in the second and third. With an 18-point lead heading into the fourth, the Titans allowed Cairo to cut into the deficit some but not enough to erase the win.

Seven Titans got in on the scoring action, led by Rachel Preusser, who had 11, and Emma Gryner, who finished with 10.  Whitney Keefer chipped in with 8. The Titans hit just one three-pointer in the game but made ten from the free-throw line.

Greenville at Chatham

The Panthers fell behind by 10 in the first quarter and were never able to get back in the game, falling to the visiting Spartans 52-22. The Panthers struggled with their scoring, putting up single digits in three of the four quarters.

Eight players scored for the Panthers, but none made it to double digits. Katie Kresser and Leah Layton each scored 4 for Chatham, while Alyssa Keeler, Marissa Myers, and Karsyn Sawyer each knocked down a shot from deep to end with 3 points apiece.

Hudson at Coxsackie Athens

The Bluehawks traveled to Coxsackie and won their fifth straight Patroon Conference game as they topped the home-standing Indians 44-19. The Bluehawk defense was intense and didn’t allow their opponents to top single digits in any one quarter.

Shavonda Cousin made nine shots from the field and finished with 18 points to lead Hudson. Jenna Turner added 7, Sam Davis had 6, and Danielle Kitsock finished with 5.

Ichabod Crane at Catskill

The Riders traveled to Catskill and dropped their second league game of the season when Nicole Riley buried the game-winning three to give the Cats a 45-44 victory. Catskill jumped out to an early 5-point lead after one quarter before ICC fought back to take a 3-point lead into the half. The Riders extended that lead to 6 heading into the fourth but could not hold on for the win.

Becca Smith led the way for ICC with 12 points, while Shana Barry had 9. Monica Hall, Haley Ooms, and Alyssa Stall each had 7 in the loss.

WEDNESDAY

Doane Stuart at New Lebanon

The Tigers fell behind early before battling back and holding Doane Stuart scoreless in the second half en route to their first win of the year, 34-15. The Tigers scored 21 points in the middle quarters to bring home the win.

As we said last week, the key for New Lebanon was to get their two leading scorers to reach double digits in the same game, and for the first time all year, Geneva Furlano and Alannah Carpinello did just that, finishing with 16 and 15 points respectively.

Heatly at Hawthorne Valley

The home-standing Wildcats continued their struggles as they lost 45-16 to the Hornets. Hawthorne Valley scored just 2 points in the first half before putting up 14 in the second half.

Frances Workman led the Wildcats with 9 points in the loss.

THURSDAY

Catskill at Taconic Hills

The Titans notched a huge midway-point Patroon Conference win by holding on at home to top the visiting Cats, who came in hot off a win against ICC. The Titans fell behind by 5 but battled back to win 38-29.

Alexis McComb hit three triples en route to 12 points, while Rachel Preusser added 9. Emma Gryner and Whitney Keefner each added 6 as the Titans pulled out the big win.

Chatham at Rensselaer

The Panthers fell behind 24-3 after one quarter, and despite fighting back in the second quarter, they could not get back in the game, losing to the Rams 57-21. The Panthers outscored the Rams 11-9 in the second quarter, Chatham’s only double-digit scoring quarter.

Alyssa Keeler hit two three-pointers to give her 6 points, while Leah Layton added 5 in the loss. Three Panthers hit a shot from deep and finished with 3 points in the game: Karsyn Sawyer, Marissa Myers and Erika Sheerin.

Hudson at Ichabod Crane

The Riders went up 10-4 after a quarter and used a 7-1 second-quarter run to go up by 12 heading into the half. They never looked back as they topped visiting rival Hudson 34-19.

Becca Smith led ICC with 11, while Alyssa Stall hit a pair of threes while scoring 9. Danielle Kitsock scored 9 in the loss for Hudson and nailed two from deep. Sam Davis added 5 for Hudson.

FRIDAY

Hawthorne Valley at Doane Stuart

The Wildcats remained winless falling to Doane Stuart 35-31. Hawthorne Valley trailed by just one point after one quarter and took control in the second as they went up by 4 heading into halftime. Doane Stuart got the offense flowing in the second half to silence the Wildcats.

Frances Workman had a big game in the loss making four shots from the field, three from deep, and two from the free-throw line for a total of 19 points. A trio of players finished with 4 for the Wildcats.
