01-11-10

MONDAY

New Lebanon at Heatly

In a battle of undefeated CHVL squads, New Lebanon fell to Heatly 58-55. The two teams played close throughout the game, with neither team ever able to pull away from the other, before the Hornets sealed the game from the free-throw line.

New Lebanon hit 4 three-pointers but allowed Heatly to hit 10 in the loss and held a 13-to-8 edge at the free-throw line.  Bryan Potter led New Lebanon with 17 points, while Mike Gavrity hit three shots from deep and finished with 16 points.  Kyle McHugh added 11, while C.J. Trombley and Todd Ferguson each scored 4.

WEDNESDAY

Taconic Hills at Cairo-Durham

The Titans fell behind 22-6 after one quarter and, despite fighting back in the second, could not get all the way back, and they fell 61-39. The Titans were inconsistent on the offensive end, scording just 6 and 8 points in the first and third, but they put up 12 and 13 in the second and third.

No Titans reached double digits in the loss. The high scorer was Mike Jacobsen with 9. Chris Filli scored 8, while Dylan Decker, Kyle Preusser, and Clarence Scott each chipped in with 5.

Chatham at Greenville

The Panthers picked up a much needed second win of the season after a 68-36 road win against the Spartans. Chatham opened the game by scoring and defending, heading into the half up 38-13.

Ten players got into the scoring column for Chatham led by Will Gauthier’s 12. Two other players, Jun Ha Shin and Brandon Johnson, also reached double digits scoring 11 and 10. A pair of sophomores, Mike Flemming and Sebastian Acheson each added 8.

Coxsackie-Athens at Hudson

The Bluehawks won their fifth game out of their past six contests after posting an 82-63 win over the visiting Indians.  The Bluehawks took an 8 point lead after one quarter and added to that in each of subsequent three periods.

Nine players scored for Hudson, with three reaching double digits. Larell Roberts and Jeff Crank each scored 24 for Hudson, but in different ways. Roberts did his work inside nailing nine shots from inside the arch and six from the free-throw line, while Crank nailed five shots from deep. Nevin Sheldon added 10 in the win.

Catskill at Ichabod Crane

The Riders remained undefeated while handing Catskill their third league loss of the year on Wednesday. The Riders jumped out to a 4-point lead after one and extended that to 10 heading into the half and 13 going into the fourth before Catskill fought back. The Cats knotted the game at 40 before the Riders were able to close it out and win 43-40.

ICC held the normally high-scoring Cats to their lowest point total of the season, thanks in large part to limiting Catskill to just two three-pointers and eight points from the free-throw line. The Riders knocked down only one shot from deep but held a distinct advantage from the charity stripe, making 12 of 17.

Derick Horn was the only Rider to reach double digits, scoring 14, while Tanner Wolfe added 9. Chris Larm and Josh Ingham each added 7, while Mitchell Niemeyer put in 6.

THURSDAY

Waterford at Hawthorne Valley

The Wildcats picked up a nice league win by topping the Fordians 61-44. After falling behind by 5 after one quarter, the Wildcats came alive, outscoring Waterford by 22 the rest of the way.

Big man Emil DeJong led the Wildcats with 16 points on eight makes from the field. Christian Peterson added 14, while Sjaak Smeele put in 10. Max Ocean added 9, while Allan Gallardo and Zane Coffey each had 6.

Loudonville Christian at New Lebanon

The Tigers knocked off undefeated Loudonville Christian to create a four-team logjam atop of the Central Hudson Valley League. The Tigers used strong play in the second and fourth quarters to pull out the 50-47 win. Heading into the final quarter, the Tigers trailed by one before outscoring their opponents by 4.

Loudonville Christian makes a lot of shots from deep, but the Tigers held them to just one three-pointer. The Tigers made four from deep, including three by Mike Gavrity.

Bryan Potter scored 18 points to pace New Lebanon, while Gavrity added 13. Todd Ferguson added in 9 in the win.

Germantown at Heatly

The Clippers picked up a big win, dismantling the Hornets 61-41 and helping to create that four-team tie atop the league standings. The Clippers scored 28 first quarter points and went ahead by 16 and never looked back.

Eight players scored for the Clippers led by Thomas Griffin who scored a game-high 20 points. Cody Broast added 10, while Mike Wyannt and David Lyons each scored 9.

FRIDAY

Taconic Hills at Catskill

Check our Game of the Week for a full recap of this contest.

Rensselaer at Chatham

The Panthers fell behind by one point after a quarter before storming back to take a 32-27 halftime lead. The Rams came firing out of the gate in the second half and played well the whole second half to earn a 62-50 win against Chatham.

Will Gauthier led Chatham with 16 points, while Brandon Johnson and Mike Flemming added 9 and 8 respectively. The Panthers struggled to contain senior guard Chris Britt of Rensselaer, who nailed 5 three-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points.

Ichabod Crane at Hudson

These two rivals battled back and forth all night long. The Riders took a 2-point lead after one quarter, but the home-standing Bluehawks battled back and went up by 2 heading into the half. Coming out of the half was a different story. The Riders seized control and brought home a 50-45 victory.
