12-21-09 - 2:30 a.m. - Fresh off their first loss of the year, the Germantown Clippers were looking to rebound in the Central Hudson Valley League while New Lebanon was searching for their first win of the year. In the Patroon Conference the week was highlighted by a battle of undefeated squads, as Maple Hill traveled to ICC, and later in the week by a pair of undefeated teams squaring off with one-loss squads, as Catskill hosted Maple Hill and Ichabod Crane went to Greenville.
MONDAY
Germantown at Loudonville Christian
Looking to bounce back from their loss last week to Waterford, the Clippers took care of business on the road against the Eagles, winning 55-40. Germantown nursed a two-point lead after one quarter and pushed it to a mere 3 at the half before outscoring their opponents by 12 in the second half.
Taylor Race had a big game for the Clippers, finishing with 16 points, including two from deep and six assists and steals. Carissa Phillips added 10, while Patti Cameron and Melissa Fuchs each added 9 in the win.
WEDNESDAY
Germantown at New Lebanon
The Clippers upended their winless Columbia County rivals 33-26 in a low-scoring defensive contest. Germantown outscored the Tigers by 3 after one quarter and expanded that to 7 heading into the half. The Clipps outscored New Lebanon 12-2 in the third, which was crucial as the Tigers outscored them 10-0.
Taylor Race again led the Clippers, finishing with 13 points including three from beyond the arc. Patti Cameron added 11, while four other players scored for Germantown. Alannah Carpinello scored 11 for New Lebanon, while Geneva Furlano and Juanita Eaton each added 6 in the loss.
Hudson at Taconic Hills
The Bluehawks did battle with the Titans on Wednesday and came away with a hard-fought victory. Hudson jumped out to an 11-4 lead after one quarter and added a point to their lead after the second and third quarter. The Titans cut into the lead in the final quarter, but it was not enough. Hudson won 38-31.
Shavonda Cousin and Sam Davis each scored 10 points for Hudson, while Danielle Kitsock nailed three triples en route to 9 points. For Taconic Hills, Emma Gryner scored 11 points, while six other Titans got in on the scoring action in defeat.
Maple Hill at Ichabod Crane
These two undefeated squads did battle on Wednesday in what might have been the biggest battle the Patroon Conference has ever seen. The Riders, who have been out of the league for five years, came in boasting a 90+ game winning streak in the league, while Maple Hill is the three time defending league champ and came in having won 55.
