Promoted as “one of the summer’s best parties,” the Spencertown Academy’s Blues Barbecue did not disappoint. More than a hundred people turned out for the event held at the home of Karen and George Jahn, to feast on slow-cooked barbecue, groove to cool blues, and support the Spencertown Academy Arts Center. Pit master Stephen Nightingale served up the succulent pulled pork—perhaps the most memorable item on a down-home menu which also included barbecued chicken, ribs, coleslaw, greens, and plenty of iced tea and beer. The roster of musicians for the evening was equally satisfying and included blues guitarist Richard Green and vocalist Kurt Barensfeld from Kid Kurt and the Bad Boys, along with Jeff Arp-Sandel, Bill Mearns, and Steve Collins.
