4H SPONSORS FREE YOUTH ACTIVITIES AT THE FAIR

PRESS RELEASE
08-27-10

This year’s Youth Day at the Columbia County Fair offers at least one more reason to “come to the fair”. The 4-H Teen Ambassadors of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia County are sponsoring “Discover 4-H Day at the Fair” on Thursday, September 2nd from 4 to 5:30 p.m. It can be found on the porch and lawn outside Columbia Hall, near the Route 203 entrance to the fairgrounds.

So, why not take some time out from the rides and concessions to check us out? All of the activities are FREE!

Children can get balloons and meet the 4-H mascots. They can make photo frames and wind rings. Play a game with the 4-H Choose Health Ambassadors and go away with a trail mix snack they made themselves. Still more fun awaits with craft projects like coloring rulers and spatter painting designs.

The Thespian Clover Productions 4-H Club will be conducting a character “meet and great” with all the young fairgoers.

4-H members involved with animals will show their talents and expertise as part of the mini-barnyard. Come see and learn about dairy cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry.

The Cloverbud Peddle Power Contest takes place at 5:30 p.m. Watch 4-H Cloverbud members in kindergarten through second grade put their muscles to work as they peddle their tractors to the finish line!

Finally, information about 4-H club leadership and starting 4-H clubs will be available. Come as a family and enjoy another part of the Columbia County Fair. Remember, 4-H is a family affair! We have something for everyone in Columbia County, from Hillsdale to Stuyvesant, no matter if you live in the city of Hudson, or on a farm, or in a rural town.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia County provides equal program and employment opportunities. 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, serving more than 6.5 million young people across America.
