DOUG McGIVNEY

Continuing to make a difference . . .

Doug McGivney is seeking re-election as Supervisor for Kinderhook Town.

His purpose is “to continue to make a difference and to continue the efforts to":

  • To obtain solar power for Town buildings
  • To obtain more senior housing of all types
  • To establish a youth center,
  • To start a “community garden”
  • To continue our planning process on Route 9 and 9H
  • To provide for a dog run
  • To obtain better cell service from all providers

All these efforts must be obtained within common sense budgetary constraints. This means that the proposed youth center must be done by volunteers, following the model of the senior center—where seniors painted, scraped, cleaned, and remodeled with minimum tax dollars. In a youth center, staffing must be done with parents, and there must be two, a male and female, on site at all times.

Other projects will also be done with volunteers, donations and grants or stimulus money, with minimum use of real estate taxes.

Accomplishments:

New Highway Garage

Sidewalks—more to come

Baseball diamonds

The dugouts and screening were a Eagle Scout project

The diamonds themselves have been extensively built with help

from Little League and other citizens

Soccer Fields

The most recent was with help from Crane Soccer

My adversary's literature refers the people deserving “energetic leadership” that “gets things done.” The above are just a few of what I have gotten done. My blog has an article that appeared in a local publication which lists many more.

So far as being “energetic” is concerned, although I am 71 years old, I am a regular runner, and this photo shows my congratulations for being first in my age group this summer at the Ken Hummel 5K race in Stuyvesant.  Karen Hummel gave me a hug when my award was announced as “being in a class by himself.”
