ELECTION DAY 2009

Carole Osterink

ccSCOOP Editor

In the days leading up to Tuesday, November 3—Election Day 2009—ccSCOOP will be looking at some of the more critical races in the county. We have invited the candidates in these races to submit to us profiles and position papers that state, in their own words, what they believe to be the most important things voters should know about them and their thinking about the issues facing their municipalities. The statements have been unedited except for corrections, when needed, in spelling and punctuation.

THE RACE FOR

KINDERHOOK TOWN SUPERVISOR

In Kinderhook, long-time incumbent Doug McGivney is being challenged by by former Valatie mayor Pat Grattan.

This year, Democrat Doug McGivney, who is the Minority Leader on the Board of Supervisors, found himself defending some very controversial plans: moving the Department of Social Services from Hudson to the old Ockawamick School in Claverack and merging the county-run Pine Haven Nursing Home with the new for-profit "senior campus" being proposed for a site in Kinderhook. It is unclear how the voters of Kinderhook feel about these issues and how they might influence the outcome of the election.
