UPDATE 04-16-09 12 Noon - Yesterday, Judge James V. Brands issued a ruling that permitted 400 previously challenged ballots to be opened and counted, and as the counting of these ballots as well as military and federal absentee ballots proceeds, Murphy's lead increases. Today at 10 a.m., the New York State Board of Elections reports that Murphy leads Tedisco by 167 votes: Murphy 79,404; Tedisco 79,237.

Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Saratoga, and Washington counties are reporting that their count of paper ballots, including military and federal ballots, is complete. The count of paper ballots continues in Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Rensselaer, and Warren counties.

In Columbia County, 605 paper ballots have been counted thus far: 383 were cast for Scott Murphy, 222 for James Tedisco.
