UPDATE 04-09-09 6 p.m. - With some of the paper ballots counted in six of the ten counties in the 20th Congressional District, the New York State Board of Elections posted new numbers late this afternoon, showing that Murphy had pulled ahead by 8 votes. The totals now are: Murphy 77,590; Tedisco 77,582.

The six counties reporting paper ballot numbers are Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Otsego, and Rensselaer. Delaware and Otsego counties have completed counting the paper ballots received. The other four counties are still counting paper ballots.

The numbers reported by the NYSBOE for Columbia County are only those from Wednesday's count: 55 for Murphy; 13 for Tedisco. By the end of the day on Thursday, 233 paper ballots from 16 of the 58 precincts had been considered: 99 were for Murphy; 42 for Tedisco; 83 were challenged; and 9 declared void.

There will be a hiatus in the count of paper ballot for the Good Friday holiday and the weekend. Counting will resume on Monday.
