Despite gray skies, the threat of rain, and the fact of rain, everyone was in a party mood last Saturday afternoon, September 6, for Community Day in Red Rock. The Volunteer Fire Company was celebrating its new possessions. There was an open house at the new-brand firehouse and a wet down for the shiny new fire truck. The wet down was a real community affair, with everyone—young and old—spraying the truck with squirt guns. There were burgers on the grill, and Stephen Nightingale was serving up his terrific pulled pork with a just-right North Carolina sauce. The weather may have disappointed, but the food and the sense of community did not.
