SATURDAY AT THE HAWTHORNE VALLEY FARM FALL FESTIVAL

“A kids’ heaven”—that’s how one parent described the Fall Festival at Hawthorne Valley Farm on Saturday, October 11. There were many things to do and many things to engage children’s interest and spark their curiosity. There was food, there was music, there were crafts for sale—all the usual fair fare. But beyond that, there were things for kids to do—intriguing things, imaginative things.
Kids could carve a pumpkin. They could ride a horse. They could climb a mountain of hay bales. They could see cows up close. They could help make apple cider. They could learn about real live raptors—a Harris hawk, a great horned owl, and a red-tailed hawk. They could climb on a vintage tractor. They could go on a hayride.
Carole Clark, former chef-proprietor of the Charleston in Hudson, who was there with her two young grandsons declared, “This is great. We’ve been here for hours, and no one has lost interest. There’s so much here to do.”
