On Thursday, January 1, Copake Auction will hold its 29th annual New Year’s Day auction. In the days leading up to the event, the items in the auction can be previewed at Copake Auction and online.
Michael and Seth Fallon will feature 18th- and 19th-century formal and country furniture, artwork, folk art, textiles, weathervanes, and more.
I visited the Copake Auction on Sunday, December 28—the first day of the preview. Seth was kind enough to show me some of the highlights of the upcoming auction.
He showed me a 19th-century needlework memorial he estimates will go for around $20,000 to $25,000 at auction. One of his favorite pieces was a 19th-century two-part Bergen County cupboard, estimated to sell for between $9,500 and $11,500. Seth took me to a room filled with all sorts of weathervanes, including a bull, cricket, pig, dog, horses, and sailboats. My favorite item in the preview was a 40-inch replica of Nipper the RCA dog, estimated to sell for $100 to $150.
Previews will run through Wednesday, December 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on January 1, from 10 a.m. until the auction starts at noon. You can visit www.copakeauction.com to view the entire catalog.
