LEAF PEEPER FINAL CONCERT FEATURES STRING TRIOS BY HUMMEL, REGER, BEETHOVEN
PRESS RELEASE
10-26-10
Chatham, NY – The final concert of the year in Clarion Concerts of Columbia County Inc.’s Leaf Peeper series features the string trio music of Hummel, Reger and Beethoven.
The concert will be held Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in St. James Church, Routes 203 and 66 in Chatham, NY, and will feature Sanford Allen on the violin, Astrid Schween on cello, and Nokuthula Ngwenyama on viola. They will be performing String Trio in G Major, by Johann Nepomuk Hummel; String Trio in D minor, by Max Reger; and Beethoven’s Opus 3, his first string trio.

Ngwenyama’s performances as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician garner attention. The Washington Post said she performs “with dazzling technique in the virtuoso fast movements and deep expressiveness in the slow movements.” Ngwenyama won international competitions at age 17, and has since appeared with the Atlanta, Baltimore and Indianapolis symphonies, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Schween has been a frequent performer with Leaf Peepers. As a soloist and member of the Lark Quartet, she has performed throughout North America, Europe, and the Pacific; appeared at the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals; and won numerous international prizes, including the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the gold medal at Russia’s Shostakovich Quartet Competition. Schween has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and many more noted venues.
Allen began studying the violin at age 7 and entered the Julliard School of Music at age 10. He has played with the Detroit Symphony, Quebec Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Miami Philharmonic and in recitals and concerts worldwide. He took the reins as Clarion’s music director following the death of founder Newell Jenkins.
Concert tickets are $20. Students are free with an accompanying adult. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 518-325-3805 or 329-5613. Check out our new website at:
