The eagerly anticipated Fifth Annual Fence Art Show sponsored by Riders Mills Historical Association and the Columbia County Council on the Arts was held on Saturday, September 6, in a big tent pitched on field belonging to RMHA President Robert Leary. The tent saved the day. Hurricane Hanna held off her visit to Riders Mills until almost the end of the show, but the rain could not dampen the art spirit.
Artists from as far as Rhode Island and Pennsylvania, as well as Columbia County residents, participated in the “fence show,” including
Sue Anderson, Angela Bagenstoss, Scott Balfe, Jim Bollbach, Mary Brewster, Mike Bufi, Diane Churchill, Sabina Curti, Betty DeLaurentis, Jane Friend, Ulrike Grannis, Robin Guthridge, Denny Heck, Valerie Hoffman, Peggy and Bill Holland, Gretchen Kelly, Wheaties Kittell, Richard Robinson, Steven Rosenzweig, Nancy Rutter, Scott Schaffermoth, Diane Saber, Pam Sheehan, Lizbeth Shelley, Ruth Shively, Anne Siefert Sallinger, Judy Warren, Frances Wells, and Constance Zelenka,
CCCA President and Acting Interim Executive Director, Sue Chiafullo, Tricia Di Gregorio, and Judy Staber greeted the artists and visitors at the front of the tent and accepted the art connoisseurs’ payments. They reported good business.
When the Jackson’s Old Chatham House lost their grill man, Bob Leary’s family pitched to help. Bob’s son-in-law Jeff Sitko flipped burgers and grilled hot dogs, while his grandson Jeff and granddaughter Samantha ran the cash register and the drinks concession. It was a true family affair.
Hudson artist Gretchen Kelly said of the day, “I’m here for the experience.” Gretchen has volunteered to coordinate the art displays in Warren Street shop windows for Hudson Artswalk 2008, which takes place October 10-13. The Riders Mills tent was the perfect place to find artists for this upcoming CCCA event.
