The Columbia Council on the Arts will celebrate its its 14th Annual ArtsWalk in Hudson over the Columbus Day Weekend with art, auctions, parties, music, painted dogs, doghouses, and projects for kids.

The Cannonball Factory at 397 Columbia Street is the venue for the CCCA Members Show, which will open to the public at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10. The opening reception will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. There will be a dance performance at 7 p.m.

ArtsWalk committee co-chair Rob Roy MacGregor and his volunteers have been busy hanging up the wooden panels originally built for the Pocketbook Factory ArtsWalk shows. The work crew from the Hudson Correction Facility was instrumental in the installation process. Last weekend CCCA members dropped off their work to be exhibited.

Hang Dog: The “Best in Show” Show--an exhibition of dog-related images juried by artist and dog lover Ken Polinskie—will open at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, at the Columbia County Council on the Arts Gallery, 209 Warren Street. Hang Dog was organized to complement the Best in Show public art exhibit of painted dog sculptures.

During the weekend, you can stroll up and down Warren Street to see Windows Are Back!, retail shop art exhibits curated by Gretchen Kelly. On the 500 and 600 blocks of Warren Street, Grzegorz Kepinski will create Waves of Window, an installation of art pieces that use light as their primary medium.

Saturday, October 11, is Kids’ Day at ArtsWalk. From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. the Cannonball Factory will be the spot to view flat wooden “Best in Show” dogs handpainted by students from the Hudson City School District. Also at the Cannonball Factory, Taconic Hills students will present their collage dogs, while Ichabod Crane artists will display their doghouse designs.

Saturday night, the CCCA will host “Bow Wow Bauhaus,” an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Cannonball Factory from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m, to benefit the council. Original doghouses for the pampered pooch, designed and built by area architects and craftsmen, will be auctioned off as the highlight of the evening. Tickets are $50.
