RIDERS MILLS HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION ANNUAL ART SHOW

ccSCOOP News

The eagerly anticipated Fifth Annual Art Show, sponsored jointly by the Riders Mills Historical Association and the Columbia County Council on the Arts, will take place on Saturday, September 6. This year, the outdoor “fence show” will be installed under a big tent pitched in the field, ensuring that come rain or come shine, the show will happen. The tent will be within walking distance of the Riders Mills Schoolhouse on Riders Mills Road in Malden Bridge, NY. Exhibit hours are from 10 am to 4 pm.

Last year, the show was hot and steamy . . . at least, the weather was. With the help of Riders Mills Historical Association President, Bob Leary, and his trusty bunch of volunteers, I found my spot on the fence. I was near Barbara Willner, Nancy Clark, and Dorothy Powell Purello, and next to Bill Carbone.

For an artist, the fence show is a delightful way to keep in touch with painting pals and to see what they have been up to over the past year. For the art lover, the show is an ideal way to acquire original works of art to enhance the home. My favorite added attraction is the grilled treats from Jackson’s Old Chatham House. Those chefs cook up a mean cheeseburger. With an ice cold glass of white wine, what better way to savor the arts?

Last year, despite the hot weather and the threat of rain, the show’s total sales were nearly $7,000.00. This year promises to be even better.
